Prairie Stars hold winning record despite losing three of five games

The UIS baseball team traveled to Macomb, Ill. and Romeoville, Ill. last week to play in five games, finishing the week with two wins and three losses.
The Prairie Stars started off their first game of the week with a three run first inning with an RBI single by junior Alex Bradley and two RBIs by senior Adam Unes on a double.
UIS added six more runs in the third inning with an RBI single by Unes, another from a base hit by senior Nick Sanders, an RBI double from sophomore Lance LeBaron, and an RBI single from senior Jared Massengill.
Western got one run back from a wild pitch by the Prairie Stars. The Prairie Stars added four runs in the fifth inning and four more runs in the seventh inning.
Western made a run in the late innings, scoring five runs in the sixth, one in the seventh, and three in the eighth.
The ninth inning stayed scoreless for both teams allowing the Prairie Stars to win 17 to 10 with a total of 22 hits.
UIS put up one run in the first inning on a solo homer from junior Luke Stewart. The Flyers also scored in the first putting up three runs, with a two run homer from senior Ben Albano, and an RBI single from sophomore Joe Sparacio.
Lewis went on to score five more runs in the second inning to make the score 8-1.
The Prairie Stars scored two more runs in the fourth and three in the fifth on homers by Massengill and Unes to make the score 8-6.
UIS then scored five more runs throughout the seventh and eighth innings to tie the game at 11. The Prairie Stars went on to win the game 12-11 in the tenth inning on an RBI single by senior Blake Baker.
Lewis struck first in game two with three runs in the third, the Prairie Stars had two errors that inning. UIS then got the three runs back in the fourth with two RBIs coming from Unes and one from Sanders.
Lewis scored one run in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly from sophomore Austin Mastela. Lewis would hold onto the lead and win 4-3.
UIS played the Flyers for the third time on Saturday. The Stars scored one run in the top of the first from an RBI single by Unes. Lewis then scored three in the bottom of the first with an RBI single from senior Ben Albano and a two run homer from Mastela.
The Prairie Stars regained the lead with two runs in the second and one in the third. However, Lewis would go on to score eight runs throughout the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to win 11-4.
In the second game against the Flyers on Saturday, the Prairie Stars put up four runs in the third inning. An RBI came from Massengill after being hit by a pitch – adding three more runs that were unearned.
Lewis scored three runs in the bottom of the third, and put up nine runs in the bottom of the fourth to make their lead 12-4.
The Prairie Stars scored four runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to tie the game up at 12. Lewis won the game 13-12 on an RBI single from junior Mike Barajas.
UIS now has an overall record of 19 wins and 15 losses.
