The chancellor announced the new provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs (VCAA) appointee on Friday, March 24, at the Campus Senate meeting during her address.
The new provost is Dennis Papini, an Illinois native who currently works at South Dakota State University. His job officially begins on July 1, as the appointment requires formal approval from the University of Illinois Board of Trustees.
Currently, James Ermatinger serves as the interim provost, temporarily filling the position left by Lynn Pardie after her May 2016 retirement.
According to the UIS Academic Affairs webpage, “The VCAA/Provost oversees academic and budgetary policy and priorities, ensures the quality of the faculty and student body, and helps to maintain educational excellence.”
More information regarding this appointment will be available in the April 5 edition of The Journal. Previous coverage of the provost search can be found in the March 1 edition of The Journal, or at uisjournal.com.
