The University of Illinois Springfield went 2-0 on its home court on Saturday and did not drop a set. The Prairie Stars won its conference opener against McKendree, and then won a non-conference showdown against Lindenwood.

In its first GLVC contest of 2018, the Prairie Stars defeated McKendree by scores of 25-18, 25-23, and 29-27.

After going up 2-0, UIS fell in a big hole in the third set as it was down 10-2 early on, and it still trailed 23-16 late in the set.

The Prairie Stars scored eight of the next nine points to force it to extend beyond 25 points. The Bearcats would have six sets points in all, but the Prairie Stars won the point on all six. UIS finally took the lead at 27-26, and won the set and match after a kill by Taylor Bauer and a ball handling error by McKendree.

UIS had one of its best offensive showings of the season after it hit .285 and had three players in double-figure kills. Brianna Bush led the team with 13 kills, followed by Alyssa Hasler with 11 and Bauer with 10.

Tiffany Wentworth directed the offense and had 38 assists.

Defensively, Jailyn Borum had a team-high 23 digs, and Hasler led the squad with six blocks. Wentworth and Rachel Cobert also had double-figure dig totals.

The offense remained red-hot against Lindenwood later in the day. The Prairie Stars hit over .500 for the first two matches and finished with a .337 hitting percentage for the match. That led UIS to a 25-16, 25-20, and 25-23 victory.

Bush led the team again with 11 kills, followed by Cobert and Hasler with 10 apiece. Those three players combined to hit .419 in the match.

Wentworth had 34 assists and a team-high eight digs. Hasler and Alli Splitt both had a team-high three blocks, and a total of six players had multiple blocks.
