New earthquake in the Campi Flegrei: the earth shook again, a shock of magnitude 3 it occurred today Monday 10 August at 2.27am, at a depth of 4 km. According to official data from the INGV (National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology), located by the Operations Room of the Vesuvian Observatory of Naples, the earthquake had an epicenter just 2 km from Pozzuoli (81,661 inhabitants), and a depth of 4km.
The shock was distinctly felt throughout the Phlegraean area. Among the municipalities closest to the epicenter, within a radius of 20 km, are Bacoli and Quarto, followed by Monte di Procida, Marano di Napoli and Qualiano, up to Procida, Calvizzano, Mugnano di Napoli and the same Naples12 km away and with almost a million inhabitants.
This is yet another episode of the seismic swarm linked to Phlegraean bradyseism, which has been ongoing for months in an area classified as having medium-high seismic danger. INGV continues to monitor the area with the seismic network in real time.

The 3.0 magnitude shock comes just over a week after the 4.7 magnitude earthquake on Friday 31 July, the strongest ever recorded at the Campi Flegrei in the instrumental era, and a week after the maxi seismic swarm triggered by that event: according to the INGV weekly bulletin, over 240 earthquakes were recorded in the days between 27 July and 2 August, of which 217 attributable to the swarm that started immediately after the Md 4.7 shock. INGV continues to monitor the area with the seismic network in real time.
