Earthquake at the Flegrei Campi, shock of magnitude 3.0 felt in the west neighborhoods of Naples

To the Campi Flegrei An earthquake of magnitude 3.0 at 21:53 of yesterday, Thursday 28 August. As also confirmed by the Ingv, the epicenter was located along the coast, between Lucrino and Felice Arco, at a depth of 1.9 km.

The earthquake was warned by the residents of the Phlegraean area, from Baia and Bacoli, up to Monte di Procida and Felice Arco, but the shock was also perceived in some west neighborhoods of Naples, including Agnano, Fuorigrotta and Bagnoli. Some citizens reported that they had heard a roar before the shock, which however did not cause particular damage to buildings or people.

From a geological point of view, it is an earthquake attributable to the volcanic phenomenon of bradisism, that is, that periodic raising and lowering of the soil in the area of ​​the Campi Flegrei. A little over a month ago, on July 18, an earthquake of magnitude 4.0 had been recorded, clearly warned in Naples.

According to the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, since the beginning of the year, the Phlegraean camps have been detected 5,742 seismic eventsbut most of the shocks were of low intensity. These SISMI, however, do not represent an imminent eruption signal: at the moment, in fact, there is no evidence in this regard, but it is possible to always remain informed following the official pages of the Ingv and the Civil Protection.
