The best single-season TV series to watch on Prime Video

The best single-season TV series to watch on Prime Video

Sometimes you need a TV series that can be watched quickly. Not that it is light, or at least not necessarily, but just that it is not too long and above all that it has an end, or rather an ending. That’s why we decided to draw up this rather particular list, in which we put together a few Prime Video series consisting of just one season.

A few episodes, a couple of intense days and off you go, story closed. Because sometimes we really don’t want to hang on to a story for dozens and dozens of hours, and then wait years for the next season: we prefer to get to the conclusion quickly. Take a look at the titles, plots, trailers and reviews and choose the one that’s right for you.

Swarm (genre: thriller/drama)

Authentic surprise of 2023, this TV series created by Donald Glover (that of Atlantaon Disney+) hits viewers like a punch in the stomach.

Thanks to an extremely compelling story, that of a girl so obsessed with the singer of her heart (a kind of Beyoncè) that she is even ready to kill for her. And let’s say no more…

Daisy Jones & the Six (genre: musical/biographical)

Another pearl released in 2023, Daisy Jones & the Six tells the story of an imaginary rock band between the 60s and 70s. Sex, drugs & rock ‘n’ roll are the main ingredients of this story which revives the golden age of pop music.

Solos (genre: science fiction / anthology)

A crazy cast, with Anne Hathaway, Anthony Mackie, Helen Mirren, Uzo Aduba, Constance Wu, Nicole Beharie, Morgan Freeman and Dan Stevens. It is certainly a “singular” story for this anthology TV series in which each episode sees a character face a solitary life. The reason? You’ll find out in the end, trust me.

Solos’ review

Soulmates (genre: science fiction / anthology)

In Soulmates, instead of singles there are couples. Couples who find perfect love thanks to a test that is able to define everyone’s soul mate with scientific precision. Unsettling? Obviously yes, but worth seeing.

The Underground Railroad (genre: historical/drama)

The Underground Railroad was the name given to a system of paths, houses and people who helped black slaves escape from their captors, in America that had yet to abolish slavery with the Civil War.

In this series, however, that railway is not a metaphor, but a real line on tracks on which the protagonist tries to travel, having just escaped from her cruel master. Who obviously won’t let her go that easily.

Dead Ringers (genre: thriller)

The female-serial remake of David Cronenberg’s film is about two gynecologist twins who are as brilliant in their work as they are disturbing in their private lives. With Rachel Weisz very good at playing them both. Born as a miniseries, the success could lead to a sensational renewal. In that case, we will be forced to remove it from this list.

The Consultant (genre: drama)

An absolutely unmissable miniseries for fans of the great Christoph Waltz, here in the curious role of Regus Patoff, a consultant who manages to bring order to a videogame company with truly particular methods.

I’m a Virgo – I’m Virgo (genre: dramedy)

A crazy absurd comedy with dramatic overtones: it is the story of Cootie, a giant boy, but a giant indeed, in a world where those like him are persecuted. For this reason his uncles, who adopted and raised him, hid him for 19 years. But one day he comes out of hiding and his troubles and adventures begin.

Wilderness (genre: thriller)

An English married couple who moved to England: they are young, beautiful and wealthy. They seem perfect, but behind appearances lies a secret betrayal that cries out for revenge. And revenge will be.

The Wilderness review

Everybody Loves Diamonds (genre: comedy/heist)

The robbery of the century at the Diamond Center in Antwerp carried out by the Italian Leonardo Notarbartolo and his gang has become a series starring Kim Rossi Stuart. Between laughter and ingenuity, here is the (not very faithful) story of how this theft of 100 million euros in jewels was carried out.

The review of Everybody Loves Diamonds

Expats (genre: drama)

The heartbreaking story of an American woman who lives in Hong Kong for her husband’s job, and who one day loses her son. The investigations and reflections carried out to find the child tell the dramatic story of this woman played by Nicole Kidman.

The Expats review

Wrong Sisters (genre: thriller)

Two very different sisters, who however have more in common than you might imagine. One day, the husband of one of the two is found brutally murdered in his home, and suspicions gather around the son. It will be up to the two sisters to protect the boy from accusations. At any cost.

Love is a matter of points of view. A woman loves her son, a girl loves that boy, and each of them is convinced that the other is hiding something terrible. Between secrets, investigations and twists, that poor boy’s life is ruined by the very people who say they love him.

The Girlfriend review
